The Lalit Kala Akademi recently hosted an art exhibition of paintings by IAS officer Rakesh Agarwal. Even as curators present said that they wondered how a government official finds the time for painting and manages to not let his creativity die, the artist made the trick sound pretty simple. He told us, “To me, painting is like meditating or praying.
Sure, one has a hectic schedule. But mornings are always good to use, as long as you are disciplined.”
The event was inaugurated by IAS officer Ajit Seth and Jaya Jaitley, founder of the Dastakari movement. All the paintings were made in water colour. Kanchan, one of the attendees, said, “Water colours are hardly used anymore. Most of us only remember them from art classes in school. But the artist has used them so well that it reminds me of my school days.” Actor Vivek Oberoi, who was attending another exhibition at the Akademi, made many of the attendees run to him for selfies. They were back to the water colour paintings soon after.
